Telangana State Wakf Board sealing hits marriage papers
The marriage certificates are taken by those planning to obtain a passport to go abroad.
Hyderabad: People visiting the Qazath section of the TS Wakf Board to obtain marriage certificates are returning empty handed as the office was sealed by the revenue department ten days ago. Around 250 marriage certificates are issued by the Qazath section, managed by the TS Wakf Board and Anjuman-e-Qazath (council of qazis). The applications are submitted along with the copies of nikahnamma (marriage booklet) issued by qazis to obtain the marriage certificate.
The marriage certificates are taken by those planning to obtain a passport to go abroad. “Generally, women apply for the marriage certificates to submit it for obtaining the passport and a visa to join their husbands who are working in foreign countries,” said an official of the Qazath section. Under the tatkal category, the certificate is issued next day while in general category it takes a week. “Around 200 certificates are kept in the office. People applied for them before the office was sealed by the revenue authorities,” said the official. When contacted, Mr Syed Omer Jaleel, special secretary of the minority welfare department, said that the Qazath section will be opened soon.
