GHMC takes lessons from Delhi
During the meet, they shared information on good practices regarding maintenance of roads in the NDMC area.
Hyderabad: Acting on the instructions given by municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao, officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) engineering wing interacted with their counterparts in the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) in the city on Saturday.
During the meet, they shared information on good practices regarding maintenance of roads in the NDMC area. There was a presentation of the procedures and strategies implemented by the NDMC on quality assurance, maintenance by in-house staff, management of service centres, management of transportation of workers and material for repairs and fixation of utility services and responding to stagnation of water.
The city officials were also briefed on the criteria and procedures followed by the NDMC in permitting cutting of roads to attend to drainage, sewerage, electricity and communication lines.
The city officials were told that accountability for restoration of road cutting was strictly followed. NDMC official said that it was a self-sufficient unit, the team of engineers from GHMC enquired on the sources of income and budget management to meet the citizens services.
The team also discussed the maintenance of colony roads, signage, speed control mechanisms, toilets, sanitary, open gyms, and bus shelters.
The GHMC engineers later visited the NDMC-maintained underground tunnel which is used for connecting various cables and the pipeline for sewerage. They saw the procedure for draining storm water, public convenience centres with free toilets, nominally paid medical centres and water bottle automation.
