Chennai: The Madras high court has adjourned to January 9 the hearing of a PIL from social activist Traffic Ramaswamy, which sought a direction to the police to register a case based on his representation against former minister and AIADMK spokesperson Ponnaiyan and Chairman of Apollo hospital in connection with issuing press releases relating to former chief minister late J. Jayalalithaa.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M.Sundar, before whom the PIL came up for hearing, adjourned it to January 9 since the petitioner was not present in the court due to illness. According to Ramaswamy, during the by-poll when Jayalalithaa was in Apollo hospital, a press release was issued on November 13 by Ponnaiyan on behalf of Jayalalithaa without her signature.

However, immediately another press release was issued which contained the signature of Jayalalithaa. The said signature varied from her original signature.
There were many differences in the style and font of the letters in the signature.

There were serious doubts in the minds of the general public. Moreover, on November 5, 2016, the newspapers reported that the chairman of Apollo hospital had stated that Jayalalithaa has fully recovered and she can fix a date to go home. He sent a representation to various authorities to register a case and investigate the matter with no response, petitioner added.
