Rajahmundry: ONGC’s offshore survey for hydrocarbons along the coast near China Mynivanilanka village of Narasapuram in West Godavari was affected when the local fishermen opposed it.

Several fishermen expressed their displeasure over ONGC’s survey alleging that it was affecting their livelihood as they were not allowed to carry out fishing for several days.

When contacted, ONGC general manager (Geology) R. Bhavana said, “We are carrying out a survey along the sea coast for hydrocarbons. We have asked the local fishermen not to go for fishing for a few days as it may affect our survey. We will pay compensation as the fishermen are not allowed to go for fishing due to our survey as per the established norms. Our personnel are negotiating with the fishermen at present and we are confident to resolve the issue amicably.”
