Chennai gangster's Rs 11.6 crore property attached
Kathiravan was murdered in March 2013 and at that time the police seized Rs 75 lakh from his house.
Chennai: Kaathu Kuthu Ravi, a history-sheeter with 20 odd cases, including four murders, and who worked with various gang leaders in the city, seems to have minted a lot by his criminal activities in the last two decades.
The enforcement directorate, after collecting details from Chennai police, has attached property worth Rs 11.6 crore, located in various places, including East Coast Road and Velachery here and Namakkal district belonging to Kaathu Kuthu Ravi. Though he hails from Vysarpadi he had shifted his residence to Neelankarai on ECR.
The last major case he was involved was the murder of Kathiravan — an accused in the Sankararaman murder case in 2004. Interestingly, Kathiravan was Ravi’s associate earlier. Kathiravan was murdered in March 2013 and at that time the police seized Rs 75 lakh from his house.
Ravi’s claim that the money found in Kathiravan’s house belonged to him forced police to look into Ravi’s financial background. This led to unearthing of property owned by Ravi. Police found that he was owning property worth nearly Rs 20 crore.
What surprised the city police was the fact that Ravi was not just a gangster. Unlike others, he had invested money systematically in property. “He was part of the gang that started smuggling red sanders very early, much before many turned into it. He had made good money in that as well as in his other criminal activities,” police sources said.
The city police took a detailed list of his property and found they were disproportionate to known sources of his income.
The list of property in his name and in the names of his minor sons was handed over to enforcement directorate who attached eight property.
