Kozhikode: Mahe’s story teller M Mukundan starrer ‘Bonjour Mayyazhi’ was premièred at KP Keshava Menon Hall in the city in front of a large audience including film actors Sreenivasan and Mammu Koya on Wednesday evening. The 24-minute short film directed by E.M Ashraf beautifully depicted the imaginary encounter the writer had with his characters from various novels and short stories.

Speaking to DC, M.Mukundan said that it was a wonderful experience acting in the film. “At first when the director came up with the idea, I was hesitant to give permission to the project. However, when he showed me the script, I found it very interesting. The characters complaining to the writer about their fate in the novel is something which I had never heard of and the director had done the project very well,” he said.

Director of the short film, E.M Ashraf said that this was the first time, a writer was  acting as himself in a film along with his characters. “I got the thread for the story from an incident that happened in Mukundan’s life. Recently there was a burglary in his house and his wife asked me whether I could find any flat in Kannur so that they could move.  Mukundan interjected that he could not leave Mahe because his characters were living here. That made me to develop a story,” he added.

The characters are from the novels Mayyazhipuzhayude Theerangalil, Daivathinte Vikrithikal and Kuda Nannakkunna Choyi and from his stories including Radha Radha Mathram. The film will also be screened at Mahe, Thiruvananthapuram and Dubai and also feature in various film festivals.
