Geelani alleged the professor has been implicated in a false and fabricated case'.
Srinagar: Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday threatened that an agitation will be launched in Kashmir if Valley-born former Delhi University lecturer SAR Gilani is not released and cases registered against him withdrawn.
Gilani arrested in connection with a recent event at the Press Club of India where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised and subsequently booked on sedition charges was on Thursday sent to 14-day judicial custody by a magistrate after he was produced before him for remand proceedings in a police station.
Alleging he has been implicated in a “false and fabricated case”, Mr. Geelani expressed his apprehension that he (Mr. Gilani) and Kashmiri students will be made scapegoats. He alleged that the Delhi police has on the directions of RSS made the lives of the Kashmiri students “hell”. In a statement issued from Delhi where the octogenarian separatist leader is camping for past two weeks for “health reasons” cautioned that if Mr. Gilani and other arrested people are not released forthwith and the harassment of the Kashmiri students does not stop, “we will call for protest in Kashmir against that and it will have serious consequences”
Geelani expressed his deep concern and anguish over the “growing intolerance” in India and said that this country is day by day becoming unsafe for the minorities and lower caste Hindus. “Their lives, property and dignity are in danger,” he alleged.
