Jagan Mohan Reddy deals blow to Chandrababu Naidu with BC sops
Mr Reddy said the BC Commission would be brought under legislation and problems of all castes sorted out through it.
Kakinada: YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday showered several boons on the Backward Classes, SCs, STs and minorities, giving a big blow to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's efforts to woo the community.
Addressing a large number of people in a BC Garjana meeting at Eluru in West Godavari district on Sunday, Mr Reddy said 50 per cent quota will be given to SCs, STs, BCs and minorities in all political posts, including nominated ones, and also in outsourcing and contract jobs. He said the reservations will be enacted and an integrated BC Sub-Plan Act brought in in the first Assembly session after the polls. He said the BC Corporation would be cleansed and separate corporations set up for the 139 BC castes. He said that Rs 75,000 crore will be allocated for BC welfare for five years at Rs 15,000 crore per year, and Rs 75,000 will be given to each BC woman who crosses 45 years of age. Village volunteers will go to the beneficiaries’ houses and distribute the amount under YSR Cheyutha, he said.
Mr Reddy said the BC Commission would be brought under legislation and problems of all castes sorted out through it. He lashed out at Mr Naidu saying it was not fair to tell lies for votes during elections. He said 31 BC castes were not under the purview of OBC list, but Mr Naidu, who continued in alliance with the BJP for four years, did not write a single letter to the Centre to accord recognition to these castes.
After assuming power, he said he would make efforts to include 32 castes in the BC list in Telangana, too, by holding discussions with the TRS government.
He said Rs 20,000 would be given to every student who studies staying in a hostel and Rs 15,000 to mothers who send their children to schools. Small-time traders will be given Rs 10,000 without interest and barbers who run shops will get Rs 10,000 per annum.
Nomadic castes will be given houses and employment and special residential schools would be set up for their children. Fishermen would get Rs 10,000 during conservation period and Rs 10 lakh ex gratia would be given to families of fishermen, who die in accidents, under an insurance scheme. Subsidy on diesel for fishermen would be increased. Every woman who belongs to the weaving community and has a loom will get Rs 2,000 per month. If dairy farmers supply milk to cooperative dairies, they can be given '4 additionally per litre, he said.
