Pharma sector to boost jobs in Telangana: KT Rama Rao

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government will set up an institution for curative therapies, particularly focused on cellular and gene therapies, in partnership with the city-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Monday.
Speaking at the BioAsia meet, he said the pharmaceuticals and life sciences sector was booming in the state with 35 per cent of the pharmaceutical production the country and one-third of the vaccines for the global market coming from the state.
The combined enterprise value is to the tune of $50 billion, he said. “We are now working to increase it to $100 billion and combine the technology with the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors. There will be jobs created in a decade in Hyderabad.”
With the inauguration of Syngene Internation-al Limited in Genome Valley it has shown that Hyderabad is a hub and there are many companies attracted to the city and state. The medical device park, located on a site measuring more than 20 acres, near Shamshabad has 20 companies which have started setting up units for the manufacture. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is also setting up a unit for data analytics, he said.
