Bengaluru: A 45-year-old man allegedly burnt himself after pouring kerosene following a trivial row, while his 75-year-old mother sustained 60 per cent burn injuries in a bid to save him in Hulimavu police station limits on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Yerumalai, who hailed from Tamil Nadu. He was staying with his mother Kevumppa. Police said Yerumalai was not married and was living with his mother. He was unemployed and a habitual drinker.
On Wednesday night, Yerumalai came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with his mother. Later in a fit of rage he grabbed the kerosene cane, poured it on himself and set himself on fire. Kevumppa rushed for her son’s rescue and raised an alarm. After hearing Kevumppa’s cries the neighbours rushed to her help. On getting an alert, the police rushed to the spot and shifted both of them to Victoria hospital, where Yerumalai was declared dead on arrival. Kevumppa’s condition is said to be critical.
