Mutt head Jayendra Saraswati summoned
Court calls for appearance.
Chennai: The I Additional Sessions Court in Chennai has summoned Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and others to appear before the court on March 28 in connection with auditor Radhakrishnan assault case.
Auditor Radhakrishnan, a former associate of the Sankara Mutt in Kancheepuram, was assaulted on September 20, 2002, at his Chennai residence. The Foreshore Estate Police registered a case against 11 persons including Jayendra Saraswathi, Sundaresa Iyer, Kathiravan and Appu. While Kathiravan was murdered by a gang in K.K. Nagar in 2013, Appu died while undergoing treatment for bone cancer at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada last year.
The case had witnessed a number of twists and turns over the years. The approver in this trial, Ravi Subramaniam, turned hostile during the course of the proceedings. The prosecution examined 55 witnesses among the 81. And, 26 among the witnesses were dispensed with for personal appearance. When the case, came up for trial, Judge, I Additional Sessions court, P. P. Rajamanickam directed Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswati and others to appear before the court on March 28.
