Bengaluru: Mindful TMS Neurocare; New treatment for mental illnesses
The Mental Health Survey states that there is a higher prevalence of mental ailments in urban centres like Bengaluru.
Bengaluru: More people, especially youngsters, are falling prey to mental illnesses. The National Mental Health Survey 2016 highlighted that around 8% of the population in the state suffers from mental illnesses and the percentage is on the rise. Despite such high numbers, there is still a large section of society that stigmatises mental issues, which leads to hesitancy and reluctance towards seeking professional help.
With new and complex cases of mental disorders in the city, there is a need for advanced treatment options which specially caters to the young population in the city. To address this issue, the Mysuru-based NR Group brings in their globally established super-specialised psychiatric neurocare centre introducing 'mindfulTMS Neurocare' to Bengaluru to create awareness about mental illnesses and help Bengalureans bounce back to their day-to-day life without affecting their professional life.
TMS has evolved as an effective non-drug-based treatment option or an adjunct (add-on) treatment for depression with no side-effects. It has helped thousands of patients to overcome depression, OCD and has proved to be effective in curing addictive disorders, Parkinson's disease, post-stroke depression and post-natal depression. In India, insurance companies, including Ayushman Bharath and Oriental Insurance, cover TMS for treatment of depression, OCD and addiction.
The Mental Health Survey states that there is a higher prevalence of mental ailments in urban centres like Bengaluru. With most of the workforce being techies, who stay alone and away from their families, they are gripped by loneliness and stress, accompanied by work pressure.
The National Crime Records Bureau states that 35 in every 1,00,000 people in Bengaluru commit suicide due to depression. The city was also tagged as the suicide capital of India in 2013.
Dr Vijay Mehtry, Consultant Psychiatrist, mindful TMS Neurocare, said, “A large segment of depressed individuals who are in real need of treatment is unable to get a holistic treatment and care, and some, even after their treatment are unable to see the results as they are treatment resistant. Patients need a novel, advanced and evidence-based, effective and a non-invasive approach, like Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)."
He said a typical TMS session lasts about 19 minutes and the accelerated version about 9 minutes, post which patients can resume their normal activity immediately.
Managing partner of NR Group, Pavan Ranga, said, “Our goal at mindful TMS Neurocare is to create awareness about mental illnesses and help patients return to their normal self. Through our clinic in Bengaluru, we want to bring in our expertise so that patients have access to globally-proven treatment procedures."
