Hyderabad: IT corridor violating rights of pedestrians
Despite completing the road laying works, the authorities are yet to start the footpath construction.
Hyderabad: Residents complain about the lack of footpaths in the high-profile Kondapur, Gachibowli and Miyapur areas. They claimed that the Right to Walk initiative by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has proved futile. Despite completing the road laying works, the authorities are yet to start the footpath construction.
According to Nishanth Reddy of Gachibowli, the road laying work has already been completed and the flagship Strategic Road Development Plan work has been running at a brisk pace in the area. However, Mr Reddy complained, the corporation, despite giving several representations, has not even started constructing the footpath, due to which several non-fatal accidents have gone unreported.
Mr K. Rajeshwar, who commutes regularly in the IT Corridor, said, “It is a pity that the corporation has not even begun with the construction of footpaths in the prime areas like Kondapur, Gachibowli, and Miyapur, which have grabbed global attention. The authorities are clearly being very casual about the 'Right to Walk' initiative. I request the civic body to construct footpaths at the earliest.”
When we tried contacting the GHMC officials, they were unavailable for comments.
