Karnataka: BJP shortlists names for 26 constituencies
Limbavali said the party has taken every aspirant into account and had prepared the list.
Bengaluru: Keeping its options on the Mandya and Hassan seats open, the state BJP core committee on Sunday shortlisted candidates for 26 parliamentary constituencies of the 28 in the state.
Speaking to reporters after the core committee meeting on Sunday, state BJP General Secretary Mr Aravind Limbavali said the list of candidates would be finalised and announced in Delhi, after a meeting with party president Amit Shah and the Central Election Committee.
Mr Limbavali said the party has taken every aspirant into account and had prepared the list. Based on the report submitted by the core committee, a final decision is expected by Monday. He said the party has not yet decided on Mandya and Hassan seats. It has identified a possible candidate for Mandya and is waiting for the final decision by Sumalatha Ambareesh. As for Hassan, former Congress minister Mr A Manju who has joined the party, is in touch with the state leadership.
When asked about two names including that of Union Minister Mr Sadananda Gowda doing the rounds for the Bengaluru North seat, Mr Limbavali said the core committee had considered the names of everyone aspiring to contest the elections. Based on these claims and the assessment of local leaders, the report has been prepared and the central leadership will take a decision, he added.
