Hyderabad: Until recently, night restrictions were in place in most of the cantonment roads after the Pulwama attack, which compelled the civilians to take longer details. However, although these restrictions were lifted a couple of days ago, morning walkers and cyclists are still being denied entry into Mornington Road of the Secunderabad Cantonment area.

Sources said that the guards are allowing only civilian vehicles like two wheelers and four wheelers into the road and that no other vehicles, or even pedestrians, were allowed entry. A video which was taken around 6:30 in the morning on Sunday, where morning walkers were denied entry, has been circulating on social media. In the video, when a morning walker questioned if it was stated in writing that walkers are banned from using the road, the military guard said that it was an army area and that they need to be careful.

The resident walkers are exasperated with the situation and argue that they do not pose any threat to the army. “It is not fair to be denied entry even after we show our ID cards to them. We have been living in this area for years,” said a Yapral resident, Mr Nikhil Sriram, who was denied entry near K.V. Bolarum Road in the morning. On the same day, many walkers were denied entry and had no choice but to comply.
