Telangana: Deep in red, staff strike will cost RTC Rs 9 crore a day
A section of employees feels that the notice has been served only keeping in view the upcoming elections for the recognised union.
Hyderabad: The TSRTC which is Rs 2,000 crore in the red, will lose Rs 9 crore every day if the unions go on strike as announced by the Telangana RTC Joint Action Committee.
The JAC comprising seven RTC employees’ unions, including the Employees Union, has served a strike notice from May 29, if there is no response from the management to their demands.
A section of employees feels that the notice has been served only keeping in view the upcoming elections for the recognised union. The labour commissioner is likely to announce the schedule of elections before the month end, a senior employee said.
Mr Ashwathama Reddy, leader of the majority union Telangana Mazdoor Union, has said the union is not part of the JAC notice. Sources said that the strike is a delicate issue. “If the majority union or any other union sees that most employees are in favour of the strike, they too may join in. This has happened in the past,” said a union leader.
TSRTC joint managing director G.V. Ramana Rao said while he sympathised with the employees and that wage revision arrears of Rs 750 crore would be released, a strike would not only cause inconvenience to the people but also further affect the corporation.
