Vijayawada: Admission process for PG medical seats under management quota has received poor response from students, thanks to a steep hike in the fee. According to NTRUHS registrar Dr S. Appala Naidu, “887 applications were received for 441 seats available in PG medical courses and 111 students have applied for 185 MDS seats available under the management quota. The demand for these courses this year is less when compared to last year.”
The Andhra Pradesh government had recently hiked the management quota fee by Rs 24,20,000 for sub category 1, whic is three times of sub category 2 and 3. Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors Association General Secretary Pidikiti Shyam Sundar blamed private medical colleges for lobbying with the government for increasing fees upto Rs 72.6 lakh per annum.
Representatives of Junior Doctors Associations said that students have gave a strong reply to the private medical colleges and health department which tries to loot students with enhanced fees. “No other states in country have hiked the fee so much. The fee for the management quota sub category 2 and 3 for MDS courses were fixed at '15 lakh per annum, which was too much,” says PG dental aspirant K. Anvesh.
