Nellore Municipal Corporation plans a residential college for civic students
Success of career foundation course prompts move.
Nellore: In a first of its kind initiative in the state, Nellore Municipal Corporation is all set to establish a residential junior college for the benefit of students coming out of municipal schools in the city. The proposal is the brainchild of Urban development minister P. Narayana and Mayor S.K. Adbul Aziz. The faculty of Narayana will extend their service to the junior college till the civic body recruits teaching staff. The syllabus is jointly developed by Sri Chaitanya and Narayana institutions. It will be popularly known as CHINA.
The success of the career foundation course (CFC) introduced for the first time in the state in municipal schools Nellore last year is one of the reasons for coming out with the concept, the Mayor told this newspaper.
“This will be implemented in all the municipal schools across the state if the Nellore model becomes successful and we are confident of it,” Mr Aziz said, pointing to the success of the career foundation course in Nellore. He said CFC is responsible for 49 students securing 10 for 10 in Class X this year as against 11 students scoring 10 for 10 last year. The pass percentage has also increased to 88 percent as against 77 last year in municipal schools.
Giving the credit to the minister for innovative reforms in education system in municipal schools, he said their intention is to offer corporate education to bright but poor students of corporation schools in Nellore city to prevent them from remaining as school dropouts. He said first preference in admissions into residential junior college will be given to students of civic body schools followed by students of government schools.
