Rain trips power supply in east, south and north part of Bengaluru
Commercial establishments had switched on their diesel generators to ensure that their business was not hit.
Bengaluru: Most areas in Eastern, Southern and Northern parts of the city saw over seven hours of power cut on Wednesday evening as heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, affected two voltage transformers at the Hoodi supply station.
Residents of Indiranagar, K.R. Puram, Koramangala,Shanthinagar, Banasawadi, Electronics City, Whitefiled, Hebbal and surrounding areas suffered from power cuts from around 4.30 pm.
Bescom sources said, “We were flooded with complaints. All efforts are being made to rectify the problem and we are coordinating with KPTCL officials. As the damage to the transformers is severe, the power supply is unlikely to be resumed on Wednesday night.”
Ms Sohali Shridhar, a resident of Banasawadi, said, “There was a heavy rain since evening and our inverter is running dry. First, I thought the power cut was because of the rain. But when I called up the helpline, they told me it was because of supply-related issues."
Commercial establishments had switched on their diesel generators to ensure that their business was not hit. “There was no disruption of power over the last few days. But today, it has gone for a long time,” said Mr Ashok Rao, a hotel owner in K.R. Puram.
