Telangana: Act to speed up projects

The government brought the amendments suggested by Centre and got the Bill approved in the Legislature again on April 30.

Hyderabad: The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016 has come into force in the state.

With the implementation of new Act, the state government is hopeful of faster acquisition of land for irrigation projects, roads, highways and other infrastructure projects and provide better compensation package to farmers /landowners.

The Amendment Act was passed by Legislature on April 30. It was reserved by the Governor on April 30 for the consideration and assent of the President. The Act received President’s assent on May 12.

The Act was originally passed by Legislature on December 28 last and sent to Centre for President’s assent. However, the Centre raised objections over some provisions in the Act and sought amendments.

The government brought the amendments suggested by Centre and got the Bill approved in the Legislature again on April 30.
