Puducherry: Puducherry Port minister M. Kandasamy on Thursday said the much-awaited beach restoration project would be completed in another couple of months.
The minister was talking to reporters after inspecting the beach restoration works here.
“The 25 crore project would be completed in another couple of months. The project was delayed following the complaints that restoration works would affect the nearby fishermen villages,” said the minster.
Mr Kandasamy said the project would be completed without affecting the fishermen villages.
Talking on the expansion of the pharmaceutical unit at Kalapet area here, the minister, who also holds the portfolio of Science, Technology and Environment said that a decision would be taken after the environment department gets the files in this regard.
“The government would go ahead with the project in such a way that it will not affect the people living in that area. The public hearing was held following the directions from the Union government,” he said.
The minister also said that territorial administration will impose a ban on manufacture and use of plastic bags below 51 microns in another two months.
“The government had already given six months to manufactures and traders’ time to shift to alternate products, where fours’ months have already passed. The ban would be imposed in another two months and alternative products would be introduced,” he said.
