VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress MP Nandigam Suresh has welcomed the Supreme Court judgment allowing the state government to go ahead with allotment and distribution of house sites to the poor in the R-5 zone of Amaravati capital region.

Addressing media persons at the party central office here on Wednesday, the MP said that the apex court verdict dismissing the special leave petition (SLP) of Telugu Desam-backed Amaravati farmers has proved the commitment of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy towards the welfare and economic empowerment of the poor.

Suresh said TD president Chandrababu Naidu and his supporters fear that allotment of house sites to poor in Amaravati will lead to a fall in market value of lands, which are mostly owned by benamis of Naidu and his supporters.

Mocking the padayatra by TD leader Nara Lokesh, the MP said Lokesh does not know anything about the state.
