NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the newly constructed Parliament building to the nation on May 28, said the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Thursday. May 28 coincides with the birth anniversary of Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, popularly known as Veer Savarkar.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla met Prime Minister Modi and invited him to inaugurate the building.

The present building of the Parliament was built in 1927, and is now going to be almost 100 years old. The new building can accommodate 888 members in the Lok Sabha and 300 members in the Rajya Sabha. The joint session of both the Houses will be held in the LS chamber that can seat 1,280 MPs.

“The new building is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities which will help the members to perform better,” said the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
