Mysuru: In a magnanimous gesture, higher education minister G T Deve Gowda told local police officers not to slap fines on college-going girls for traffic offences here on Tuesday.

Mr Deve Gowda who chaired a review meeting of Chamundeswari Asembly constituency along with officials of  Mysuru taluk and district administration here, directed Mr Vikram Aamte, DCP (Traffic), not to collect fines for traffic offences from them.  “Don’t extract (fines for violating traffic rules) from college going girls. Poor girls. Where will they have money?.  Don’t detain them on the road. Ask your colleagues to behave decently with them,” he added.

Even as he ended up issuing directions to the officer, people who attended the meeting had a hearty laugh though the minister merely demonstrated his magnanimity to college-going girls.

On Sunday, Mr Deve Gowda hosted thanks-giving lunch for more than 50,000 people of his constituency who supported him in the recent Assembly election and helped him emerge a giant killer by defeating Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by a massive margin of 36,000 votes.
