KARUR: The Karur district administration has issued a flood warning to the people who reside on the banks of the Amaravathi river and its surroundings in the district as surplus waters from the Amaravathi dam was being released.

In a release here on Tuesday, district collector Mr. T. Anbazhagan said that about 6,000 cusecs of surplus waters from Amaravathi dam near Udumalpettai in Tirupur district was being released since yesterday and there will be flood-like situation prevailing in the river Amaravathi. He also asked the people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places along with their personal belongings.

The collector also directed the Revenue department staff to be ready to meet any eventuality, besides storing adequate foodstuffs and other basic requirements for the people.

Mr. Anbazhagan also asked the authorities to warn the people through "tom tom" about the surplus water release, adding, people can contact the toll-free number 1077 at any time for any assistance.
