Kozhikode: Flood-hit areas restored
The 500-metre road down the valley was devastated, obstructing transportation to Poovanmala area.
Kozhikode: Flood devastated areas in Karincholamala have got restored with Rs 50 lakh received from district panchayat, a press release said.
The landslides on July 14 last year had swept away the Vetti Ozhinja Thottam-Karinchola-Poovanmala road along with fourteen lives.
The 500-metre road down the valley was devastated, obstructing transportation to Poovanmala area. District panchayat president Babu Parassery took the initiative after a visit there post flood.
Soling and tarring of the roads will be over this year, said Baby Raveendran, Kattippara grama panchayath president.
However, 2.9-km stretch in Poovanmala area of Vetti Ozhinja Thottam - Karinjola - Puvanmala road remains untarred, she said.
The road is included in Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana. It will receive Rs 15 lakh from Karat Razak's MLA fund, vice-president Nidhish Kalullathod said.
Reconstructing the area with giant rock segmentation from the landslide was an arduous task.
Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society finished the job in three months, cracking and displacing giant rocks and providing concrete belts and granite walls in road slide areas.
