NGT: Desilt Varthur, Bellandur lakes

BENGALURU: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has apprised the NGT committee on the progress it has made in diverting channel, while the committee has asked the authority to commence desilting of Bellandur and Varthur lakes.
The BDA has expressed concerns on carrying out the work in the area which falls under the army. The committee directed the officials to work with the revenue department and army officials and proceed with desilting work in the undisputed area.
The slum board has been asked to clear the illegal hutments processing garbage around the lake and the BBMP has been instructed to clear encroachments on storm water drains (SWD).
In order to put an end to vandalism at the Varthur Lake, lake warden Jagadish Reddy has called for deployment of lake marshals at Varthur.
