Arrest rumour mongers, MLC Karne Prabhakar asks DGP
The rumours subsequently began circulating on social media like WhatsApp, Facebook etc.
Hyderabad: Taking serious exception to rumours floated in a section of media and on social media linking him with slain gangster Nayeem, TRS MLC Karne Prabhakar on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the DGP seeking arrest of those behind the allegations. Mr Prabhakar, a close aide of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is the first politician to come out openly against rumours linking leaders and police officers with Nayeem.
The TRS leader was peeved at a website run by a popular Telugu TV channel linking his name with Nayeem. The rumours subsequently began circulating on social media like WhatsApp, Facebook etc. Though the website withdrew the story after his protest, the rumours continued to do rounds on social media forcing him to approach Ts DGP Anurag Sharma.
“It’s nothing but character assassination. I led an honest life and believe in sweat and blood. After Nayeem’s encounter, names of politicians are being circulated in WhatsApp groups, Facebook etc. Some websites even carry morphed photos. I lodged a complaint with the DGP and sought the arrest of all those indulging in character assassination,” the MLC said.
The DGP, it is learnt, forwarded the complaint to the Hyderabad city police commissioner Mahender Reddy for necessary action. Mr Prabhakar, who hails from Nalgonda district and whose name also figured in a statement by Maoists against Nayeem, said he specifically lodged a complaint with DGP against a website run by a TV channel, besides others floating rumours. “The SIT is headed by an honest officer is investigating. While the investigation is on, some newspapers and social media are playing havoc. No one has the right to tarnish the image of another person,” Mr Prabhakar said.
