NGO to keep Hyderabad clean on Bakrid

HYDERABAD: A group of city-based Non Governmental Organisations got together and launched a clean Bakrid campaign in the State during the Id-ul-Adha festival to be celebrated later this month.
The NGOs have formed a ‘Team Bakrid’ to deal with the animal waste generated during the Bakrid when animals are sacrificed. They plan to systematically collect and dispose it.
“Our aim is to ensure cleanliness during the Eid ul Adha when generally the animal waste of sacrificial animals is dumped on the streets,” says Mr Ilyas Shamshi, a team member.
“Initially, we are organising campaigns and awareness programmes in localities asking people to properly dispose the waste generated during animal sacrifice. “If properly disposed, it will help in maintaining proper hygienic conditions in the locality and avoid complaints from other groups,” Mr Shamshi felt.
“Last year, we had coordinated with the police department and the GHMC. We have men who are volunteering for the works. Equipment and vehicles is a problem for us as we have limited financial resources. So we want the authorities to support us with vehicles for transporting the waste,” Mr Shamshi said.
