Supreme Court forces two Gujarat cops to quit posts

Barot was reinducted in October 2016 as deputy superintendent of police with Western Railways at Vadodara for one year after his retirement.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday forced two senior Police officers from Gujarat, N.K. Amin and T.A. Barot, accused in the Ishrat Jahan case and reappointed on contract basis for one year, to resign forthwith and hand over charge to the state government

A bench of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud made it clear to senior counsel Gurukrishna Kumar appearing for the two officers, that they must step down on Thursday itself and demit office forthwith. Counsel submitted that his clients were willing to resign but sought some time. But the Bench rejected the request and asked them to resign immediately.   Mr Amin, who retired in August 2016 as superintendent of police, has been reappointed as SP of Mahisagar district of Gujarat on contractual basis for one year. He faced trial in the Sohrabuddin and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter killing cases. 

Mr Barot was reinducted in October 2016 as deputy superintendent of police with Western Railways at Vadodara for one year after his retirement. He was accused in the Ishrat Jahan and the Sadiq Jamal encounter cases.
