Hyderabad: The CBI’s Bengaluru branch has booked a case of possessing disproportionate assets against M.H Thangal deputy superintendent, horticulture, Archeological Survey of India. Thangal is incharge for six states including Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh and checks gardens that fall under the ASI monuments.

According to the FIR, the CBI received specific information that Thangal had amassed assets worth Rs 1.8 crore between 2012 and 2019 which prima facie appeared to be disproportionate to his income by 67 per cent. He could not give a satisfactory account for the property, the CBI said.

He “thereby committed criminal misconduct by intentionally enriching himself illicitly during the period of his office which is punishable under Section 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988,” the CBI said.

The officer joined the ASI in 1997 and was posted at Mysore. Until July, he was leading the Mysore horticulture division of the ASI having jurisdiction over Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana state and Andhra Pradesh.
