HC Stays Demolition of Tin Sheds in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Friday directed the GHMC not to take coercive steps against constructions at Sai Baba Colony in Kukatpally. The judge was dealing with a writ plea filed by Ch. Srinivas, challenging the action of the civic body’s deputy commissioner, who threatened to remove all tin sheds being used by the petitioner for his business. Deepak Misra, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, contended that the respondents were threatening to label the tin sheds as unauthorised constructions, without giving a fair opportunity of hearing his client. The matter has been adjourned to Monday for further hearing.

HC Upholds ED Order

Justice Mummineni Sudheer Kumar of the Telangana High Court on Friday dismissed a writ plea challenging the action of the Enforcement Directorate (ED). In a writ plea, Ghanshyamdas Jewellers sought to declare the action of the ED deputy director who had passed an order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, as arbitrary and illegal. The petitioner contended that the directorate froze his accounts after accusing him of money laundering. The court found no merit to interfere with the ED order and dismissed his plea.

Pvt. Medical Colleges’ Fee Challenged

A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court admitted a batch of writ petitions questioning the order of the state Fees Regulatory Authority in fixing annual fees to various medical and dental colleges. Approximately 560 students questioned the fee being collected by private medical colleges for the 2022-2023 academic year. Earlier by an interim order the court had directed part payment of the fee as an interim measure.
