Hyderabad: If GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy has his way, there would be little place for people to walk in areas that have many old and dilapidated buildings. On Saturday, the commissioner warned people “not to stand or pass by dilapidated buildings”, especially when it rains. He had earlier told the people to stay at home if it rained heavily.

He added that the warning held good for places which have old compound walls, retaining walls and areas where sites were being dug up for buildings. Commercial pockets like Abids, Koti, General Bazaar, Charminar and Monda Market have century-old buildings. Two buildings have collapsed in three days, leaving four persons injured. The GHMC de-molished 19 structures.

He said: “As rain is expected to continue, assistant city planners have been ordered to display notices on cautioning people not to move around dilapidated structures. Vacant buildings will be barricaded to prevent the public from entering.”
