Hyderabad: The accused in the recent honour killing of P. Pranay Kumar, T. Maruthi Rao and his family migrated to Miryalaguda from Kakinada in search of livelihood. Allegedly he amassed massive wealth from illegal activities like encroaching land and running an illicit liquor business. The accused reportedly owns property to the tune of around Rs 100 crore.

According to sources, he started his career as a ration shop dealer. Then he started a jaggery selling business and the venture was so successful that he started lending money to people. In the process, he developed contacts with political leaders and with their help he started grabbing lands. It has been learnt that Maruthi Rao used to have good relations with Nayeem.

They first met as enemies and the enmity between them soon turned into friendship after some time. Reportedly Nayeem and Maruthi Rao locked horns over a land issue near Miryalaguda. Both of them wanted the same piece of land and Nayeem kidnapped Rao.

However, Maruthi Rao backed out from the issue and was on good terms with Nayeem. He also promised that he would not enter Nayeem’s zone.
