Tiruchy: The national telecom contract employees federation (NTCEF) has condemned the Union Finance Minister Mrs Nirmala Sitharaman for rejecting the revival package for BSNL, given by the various employees' unions, according to its general secretary C.K. Mathivanan.
He told newsmen at Tiruchy on Tuesday on the sidelines of a fast by the BSNL contract employees who are demanding immediate disbursement of seven months' salary, that there are one lakh contract employees across the country including 10,000 in Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Mathivanan also pointed out that about 1.60 lakh permanent employees of the BSNL, have not got their August 2019 salary till today.
The BSNL used to mobilise Rs 850 crore for its employees' salary every month and if another Rs.50 crore could be managed, the contract employees' salary issue could be solved, he added.
S. Kamaraj, state deputy secretary of BSNL Officials Association, claimed non-payment of salaries has resulted in eight BSNL contract staff committing suicide.
