Calicut University bid to bypass PSC
Despite HC order, varsity makes own list of assistants.
Kochi: The University of Calicut is trying to bypass the rank list prepared by Kerala State Public Service Commission for the post of university assistants despite a high court division bench directing the varsity to make appointments from the PSC rank list.
The university prepared a rank list of 68 persons of its own in November 2017 despite the existence of the PSC rank list and appointed around 40 people on an interim basis.
The PSC rank holders challenged it in the high court which asked the university to cancel the appointments and select job seekers from the PSC rank list.
The verdict of the single bench was upheld by a division bench on August 22.
But the university initiated no steps to implement it, said one of the complainants.
The varsity seems to be trying to facilitate the unauthorised appointees to approach the Supreme Court for getting a stay against the HC verdict, he says.
The university called for filling 68 posts on an interim basis in November 2017. But only 40 people responded.
Out of the 40 joined for duty, only 26 people remain in service at present.
The university should intimate all 68 posts, removing the26, and make fresh appointments from the PSC rank list.
