Kozhikode: Chaliyar River Paddle to start on September 20
Event focuses on saving rivers from urban pollution.
Kozhikode: Chaliyar River Paddle, the 6th edition of the annual water sports event organised by Kerala Tourism in association with Jellyfish Water Sports, will begin on Sept 20.
The three-day event targets water sport enthusiasts, nature lovers, tourists and children with kayaking, SUPing, canoeing and others.
The organisers say it will help turn more youngsters and tourists into evangelists of clean waters.
"(It) focused on saving our rivers from urban pollution and promote recreational kayaking for everyone," Kaushiq Kodithodika, founder, Jellyfish Water Sports, said in a press release.
"Recently Kerala State has witnessed repetitive flooding and most people aren't very familiar with minimum safety precautions when it comes to water. So we aim to introduce more people to paddle in our rivers. Their connection to the rivers will help spread awareness about clean waters and solve many issues."
The event starts from Nilambur, located on the foothills of Western Ghats with proximity to Nilgiris. The ending point is Beypore in Kozhikode district, where the river meets with the Arabian Sea.
The Chaliyar River Paddle has something for everyone, from beginners to non-swimmers and well-established water sports enthusiasts. Not just that, from 10-year-old to 70, it's open for all, they say.
For those on the water for the first time, kayak lessons will be offered on the first day. Stand-up paddlers are also invited to join. Apart from the exciting journey on the water, the campsite will be a perfect place to unwind and bond with fellow paddlers.
Apart from camping, bonfires and team activities, participants get a peek into the culture through authentic Kerala delicacies and local tribal music. For more information and registration visit: www.jellyfishwatersports.com.
