Three minor girls rescued from gang in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Police rescued three minor orphan girls from a gang here, as they were kept under house arrest in the city.

Police said, based on a tipoff from residents of Rathinapuri, Karunanidhi Nagar Pudhuplayam, a police team raided a house belonging to a 17-year-old youth, Boopathy, in the locality and rescued three minor orphan girls. Of the three, two are said to be aged around 16 years and one is a 13-year-old.

Police arrested Boopathy and two associates Vijaya Ragavan (24) and Kumar (33). Investigations revealed that Vijaya Ragavan had brought the girls from Udumlapet in Tirupur district promising them money and accommodation.

While getting down at Ukkadam bus stand along with the girls, auto drivers there under suspicion had questioned Vijaya Ragavan. But, he escaped along with the girls and had locked them up in the house of Boopathy. Knowing about this from a local auto driver, residents had called the police. Investigations are on. In this case also, it was alert auto drivers who stopped a possible crime.
