HYDERABAD: Agra Sweets shop in West Marredpally was sealed again on Thursday by the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) authorities for neglecting the 16-point sanitation norms of the Cantonment Act.

It should be noted that on Oct. 25, during a surprise check, the officials of SCB had found the kitchen area of the shop in unhygienic condition and sealed the establishment.

Owing to Diwali season, the owner approached the board office seeking special permission to keep the sweet house running and seeking 10 days’ time  in which to set the kitchen area right.

The sweet house was reopened by the owner on Oct. 27. Following a news report titled ‘Shut eateries make quick fixes to open’ in Deccan Chronicle on Thursday, the SCB officials revisited the sweet house and found it in the same condition without any rectification.

Speaking to the newspaper, food inspector Mr. M. Devender said: “Owner Mr. B. Bala Krishna had been handed over a declaration notice of 16 norms, which needed to be followed, but the second round of inspection surprised us. The cooking is still being done in a cellar, without ventilation, no exhaust fans, labour room within the kitchen premises with an attached toilet. The walls and flooring are dirty. The owner earlier promised to comply with the hygiene norms, thus, he was granted special permission to reopen the eatery and complete the rectification within 10 days. However, even after 20 days, nothing has been done. Hence, it was re-sealed under Section 278 of the Cantonment Act 2006.”
