Supreme Court adjourns Telangana's Special Leave Petition on Krishna river

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing on the Special Leave Petition filed by TS government seeking equitable share in Krishna Water allocation to January 19, 2017. TS had claimed that it is a newly-formed State and its needs were not properly represented by undivided AP state before the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II, headed by Justice Brijesh Kumar.

The SC Bench headed by Justice Deepak Mishra on Thursday partly heard the submissions by senior counsel C.S. Vaidyanathan appearing for TS.
When Mr Vaidyanathan was arguing the case, senior counsel F.S. Nariman, appearing for Karnataka state, informed the Bench that Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal has already gone through the whole matter and decided against review of its Award pronounced in 2013.

Mr Nariman said it was now for the bench to vacate the stay granted by the Court on a SLP filed by the government of undivided AP in 2013 on the operation of the Award through a gazette notification by the Central government.

However, Mr Vaidyanathan contended that the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal has only adjudicated a matter with regard to interpretation of applicability of Section 89 of AP Reorganisation Act but not the issue of reopening the whole issue as sought by TS.

When Justice Mishra sought to know the time Mr Vaidyanathan needed to complete his arguments, senior counsel said he would want at least two days.
However, Justice Mishra said he would grant only one day and adjourned the case to January 19, 2017.
