Vijayawada: No cash refund for railway tickets
The Railway Board also mentioned that no cash refund will be made available at the counters.
Vijayawada: The Indian Railway Board instructed that cash will not be refunded for tickets amounting to Rs 10,000 and above booked on November 9 to November 24. The Railway Board asked the passengers to approach the main reservation office along with their PAN card for cancellation of such tickets with that value.
The Railway Board also mentioned that no cash refund will be made available at the counters. Instead, passengers claiming refund will be given a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) at the main station which the passenger can use it later for claiming refund.
While claiming refund, passengers are to submit details of their bank account numbers, IFSC code to facilitate refund through RTGS as per the Government of India policy.
Sensing the smart move by the people who tried to use their money to buy tickets and get the same translated into valid notes by cancelling it and getting refund, the railways has now decided to return the money in their accounts only. This is limited only to bookings done on November 9, 10 and 11 and extended it now up to November 24.
A few people who wanted to get rid of the scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination notes to skip the clutches of law too had railway tickets in hard cash. The idea was to get the tickets cancelled after the dust over the demonetised notes settled down and get back cash in valid currency. This resulted in the number of bookings swelling at the railway stations.
