New Telangana DGP to launch Old City CCTVs
So far, about 37,812 cameras were installed by the police in the south zone covering parts of the Old City.
Hyderabad: Director General of Police M. Mahendar Reddy will launch a network of about 5,000 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the Old City on Saturday. This will be his maiden function after assuming charge as the head of the Telangana state police force.
So far, about 37,812 cameras were installed by the police in the south zone covering parts of the Old City.
“The cameras were installed with the help of community support including local people and businessmen. Women have shown keen interest in the community closed circuit cameras project and contributed money after realising its advantages,” said DCP (south) V. Satyanarayana.
In the west zone about 35,399 cameras were installed followed by about 30,000 in the east zone of the city.
A total of about one lakh CCTV cameras are to be installed throughout the city to improve the security environment in line with the government’s initiative to turn Hyderabad into a global city.
