Opposition party leaders supported the workers in their protest and joined the rastha rokho.
Warangal: Scores of BILT factory workers and their family members staged a dharna with the dead body of a worker, Mandava Shankar Rao, in front of the factory in Kamalapur of Mangapet Mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district on Sunday. The worker had committed suicide on Saturday. The workers protested in front of the office of the DGM and then held a ‘rastha rokho’ outside the factory. Opposition party leaders supported the workers in their protest and joined the rastha rokho.
District sub-collector V.P. Goutham and Eturnagara ASP Rahul Hegde visited the dharna site and spoke to the protesters. The workers demanded justice for the family of Shankar Rao who wrote in his suicide note that non-payment of wages by the factory since 31 months was the reason for his extreme step.
Mr Goutham assured the workers that they would take all necessary steps to ensure the family receives ex gratia and a double bedroom house. Congress leader Seetakka said the state government is involved in land scams in the name of promoting new industrial ventures in Hyderabad and is neglecting old industries which are the livelihood of many people.
