Hyderabad: MIM floor leader in the Legislative Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi on Wednesday cautioned the Telangana government against increasing the Muslim quota to 12 per cent in a hurry as it may result in the Muslims losing even the existing four per cent quota due to legal issues.

He said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should take steps to ensure that existing four per cent quota is not lost in his bid to secure 12 per cent quota.
“I request the CM to take all precautions while drafting the Muslim Reservations Bill.... Take all precautions to ensure that the existing four per cent quota is not lost,” he said.

BJP floor leader G. Kishan Reddy, however, objec-ted giving religion based quota. “This is unconstitutional. The High Court had earlier stuck down four per cent quota. But the then state government approached  the apex court and secured an interim order to implement the quota subject to final judgement. When the matter is subjudice, how can we take up new quotas again.?” Mr Reddy asked.
