Hyderabad: Thirteen-year-old Sai Neeth suffered a severe head injury during a boxing session at Saroornagar on Monday afternoon. Sai Neeth represents Ranga Reddy at state-level tournaments and was fighting against an opponent from Peddapally.

During the practice match, Sai Neeth’s opponent punched him and he fell and hurt his head. Sai was told to rest. He was sitting in the resting area when he vomited, had a seizure and became unconscious. He was rushed to Kamineni Hospital where his mother works. Senior doctors said he was brought to the emergency unit in an unconscious state.

“We carried out scans and found that there was a clot on the left side of the brain. The patient was operated on Monday night and kept on ventilator for a day,” Dr M.A. Jaleel, consultant neurosurgeon said.

Doctors say that it is only 48 hours after the operation and they will be monitoring the patient closely.

Sai Neeth’s father, Mahesh, said his son has been boxing from the age of 10 and always wore headgear. He had been selected for the boxing league from Ranga Reddy and the present matches were for the selection at the state level.
