Deer found washed ashore in Dhanushkodi

Forest department has been maintaining a good amount of casuarinas as a forest species on Rameswaram island, sustaining.

Rameswaram​: A deer was found dead alongside the Rameswaram-Dhanushkodi road here on Friday, perplexing Forest department personnel as to how the tender quadruped managed to reach the island in the first place. 

On hearing about the carcass of a deer near Othapatti, Forest department personnel rushed to the spot, took possession of it and are making enquiries about the incident. 

Forest department has been maintaining a good amount of casuarinas as a forest species on Rameswaram island, sustaining.

 It as a means to coastal protection along this fragile ecological zone that separates the Pamban/Rameswaram island from the mainland. 

Sources said some four months back the department had received information of a deer doing the rounds in the casuarinas grove, but the animal could not be spotted. 

But today a deer found dead along the coast worried the foresters. Further inquiries are on.
