Islamic Scholar Cherussery Zainudheen Musliyar no more
He was serving as the pro-chancellor of Darul Huda Islamic University in Chemmad.
Malappuram: Renowned Sunni scholar and general secretary of Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama Cherusseri Zainudheen Musliyar passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode on Thursday around 7.15 am.
The 78-years-old Musliyar was undergoing treatment for multiple age-related ailments for the past few weeks. He was serving as the pro-chancellor of Darul Huda Islamic University in Chemmad.
He became the general secretary of the Samastha in 1996 after the demise E.K. Abubacker Musliyar and was one of the longest-serving leaders of the largest Muslim organisation in Kerala.
The Musliyar, who became a member of the top council member of the Samastha in 1974, had also chaired the fatwa panel of the top Muslim body and was also a Qazi for many Muslim councils.
He was laid to rest at 4.30 pm on the Darul Huda campus in Chemmad in the presence of tens and thousands of followers. He leaves his wife, two sons and two daughters.
