Karnataka Lokayukta: Siddaramaiah picks S R Nayak, BJP on board?

Siddaramaiah is likely to propose the name of Justice S.R. Nayak in the next meeting of a committee formed to select the next Lokayukta.

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to propose a single name for the post of Lokayukta at the next meeting to select a new Lokayukta. The post  fell vacant after Justice Y. Bhaskar Rao resigned in December last year. Mr Siddaramaiah is likely to propose the name of Justice S.R. Nayak, former State Human Rights Commission chairperson, in the next meeting of a committee formed to select the next Lokayukta.

Karnataka High Court Chief Justice, S.K. Mukherjee, besides Legislative Assembly speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa, Legislative Council chairman, D.H. Shankaramurthy and two opposition leaders Jagadish Shettar and K.S. Eshwarappa are members of the collegium-type committee which will finalise a name for Lokayukta.

Earlier, the government had suggested the name of Justices Vikramjit Sen and Nayak. Justice Mukherjee and BJP leaders favoured Justice Vikramjit Sen while Mr Siddaramaiah and Mr Thimmappa favoured Justice Nayak. Justice Sen however later withdrew from the race.
