Visakhapatnam: Schools admission blues for parents
Due to fierce competition for some premier schools of city, parents applies for more than few schools to get admission for their wards.
Visakhapatnam: Months ahead of the opening of the academic year, several CBSE schools in Visakhapatnam are almost about to complete their admissions much to the surprise and tension of the parents of prospective students.
While some schools have almost completed the admissions, the process is underway at other schools, keeping the parents in the dark over allotment of a seat. Due to the fierce competition for some premier schools of the city, parents had to apply for more than a few schools to get admission for their wards, often seeking recommendation of influential people.
Several parents are also waiting for the release of the second list of their preferred school before opting for another school. But nothing comes without a heavy price tag.
Several established schools charge as much as Rs 5,00,00- Rs 1,00,000 as admission fees besides charging Rs 5000- Rs 10,000 a month.
Speaking to this correspondent, Mr Srinivasa Raju, regional head of a broadband provider, rued about the rush and tension associated with the admission process.
“The authorities of the school asked me to wait for a few more days as there was a huge pile of applications for the limited seats,” said Mr Raju.
On the other hand, the new-age schools caught the imagination of parents by offering the curricula on par with the international programmes, at least what they claim on the paper. But the same was the situation with these schools in terms of admissions and rush.
When contacted, a representative of a CBSE school informed that they have almost finished the admissions. Some observers say that parents are also fastidious about admitting their wards in a renowned school despite the trouble, both physically and financially.
P. Kumara Swamy, parent of a kid, explained that he had applied in five top schools in Vizag as there was no surety as to which school offers the seat, which indicates the increasing levels of desperation among parents.
