THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Youth Congress state president Dean Kuriakose and vice-president C. R. Mahesh  will stage a 48-hour hunger strike  in front of the secretariat here from 10 a.m. on Monday in protest against the police failure to nab the real culprits behind the murder of  Youth Congress Mattanur block secretary T. H. Shuhaib last week. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the fast.

Congress leader K. Sudhakaran is also launching an indefinite fast before the Kannur collectorate on Monday morning.   The Congress has alleged that two persons, Akash Thillenkeri and Rajin Raj,  who surrendered before the police on Saturday, are dummies. Mr  Dean demanded a CBI probe to unearth the conspiracy behind the murder.

“Akash and Rajin,  two CPM supporters,  are regular  participants in the political violence in the district. The police have become irrelevant as  the Kannur CPM  has presented two dummies before them,”  said Mr Dean. Mr Mahesh also said that they will decide on the future  course of action soon.   Shuhaib was hacked to death on Monday night last week allegedly by CPM workers at Mattanur.
